Soy candle wick care

Let’s talk wick care! ⠀

When lighting a candle for the first time, allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the container. Should be around 1-2 hours. This is called a full melt pool. Because the wax is melted evenly and resembles a pool (as pictured above).

Failure to allow the candle to create a full melt pool will cause “tunneling” which will limit the life of your candle. “Tunneling” is when the wax burns straight down around the wick only. ⠀

Soy wax burns at a low temperature which requires a thick wick. This wick is made out of 100% cotton and a paper thread. This type of wick does not burn entirely and must be trimmed regularly. Must be trimmed to 1/4” before you re-light your candle. You can trim your wick with regular scissors or a special trimmer (pictured above). ⠀

Following proper wick care will ensure a long-lasting candle, minimize soot, and remove any mushrooming of carbon on the wick. ⠀

Optimal burn time is 2-3 hours. Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time, otherwise the wax will over heat.

How often do you trim your wicks? Did you know how to care for your week or was this news to you? ⠀
